Lanjutkan tempoh khidmat wajib doktor
HOSPITAL kerajaan sering menghadapi masalah kekurangan doktor kerana ramai yang berhenti kerja selepas lima tahun. - Gambar hiasan
Comment:
akibatnya nanti Kelemahan diri terselah pula...
'Kudos' For Extension Of Housemanship
By Zulkiple Ibrahim
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- "It is a wise move" said a consultant physician before rushing off for a ward round at a medical centre here.
The consultant had made the above comment after he was asked by the writer on the recent announcement by the Ministry of Health that from this year, the period of housemanship will be extended to two years.
Health Director Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican made the statement last Aug 3.
"The move is to enhance the quality and competency of medical officers in the field. It would also ensure that the medical officers are able to treat patients and could be assigned to any health facility including those in the rural areas", he was quoted by the media.
Dr Ismail said the medical authorities decided on the move as a number of graduate medical officers admitted that they are not prepared and do not have the capability to render good service when sent to district hospitals or clinics after completing only one year of housemanship.
WHO IS A HOUSEMAN?
A 'houseman' is a term for a graduate in medicine gaining supervised practical experience. The meaning is also for a a junior doctor in a hospital.
A dictionary describes the word as 'a physician who has recently graduated from medical school and is learning medical practice in a hospital under supervision, prior to beginning a residency programme.

That’s only a rough guide for medical students.
That’s only a rough guide for medical students.
There’s another aptitude test by University of Virginia on what medical specialty suits best for medical student, depending on one’s personality. That is just a rough guideline,
After all, for career satisfaction, the consideration should be, what U CAN do and What U LOVE to do rather than what U WANT to do...
I discover this interesting article when browse through internet which is regarding transition from medical student to junior doctor
From medical student to junior doctor: an A to Z guide

The transition from medical student to junior doctor is difficult for many reasons. These include the content of the undergraduate course (which often covers numerous subjects which have little or no application to clinical practice), the lack of an apprenticeship period with close supervision, and the extraordinary nature of the first year junior doctor's job in terms of clinical responsibilities, horrendous workload, and resulting personal and professional stress.
Resolving this situation is complex. It needs major restructuring of the undergraduate curriculum (as has happened at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Medical Faculty, where there is clinical patient contact from the first year), incorporating a "trainee intern" year, in which final year medical students work as apprentice junior doctors (as occurs HERE, in MALAYSIA), and major reform of the duty requirements of junior doctors (as has occurred in many Western countries as well as in MALAYSIA, with a restriction on the number of hours of work and the recognition of workload as a patient safety issue).
It is important that final year medical students recognise the difficulties that they are likely to face as junior doctors and the ways in which they can overcome them. This A to Z may help.
